Chinese scientists create solar panels that also work at night

The official local daily reported Monday that scientists at Chinese universities have created solar panels capable of generating power even at night, with rain or fog.

The technology is based on a new material called phosphorus of great persistence, that manages to store solar energy during the day to be used at night.

One of the project's managers, Tang Qunwei, from the Oceanic University of China explained "Only partly visible light can be absorbed and converted into electricity, but this matter can store solar energy from unabsorbed and near-infrared light " .

The stored light is released and the solar cells use it to continue producing electricity.

He also said "Solar cells that work at any given time may indicate that the global solar industry will be able to lower the price of energy collection ".
